St. Jude dribblers sweep PCYAA elims
MANILA, Philippines—Saint Jude Catholic School capped its dominating performance in the eliminations in style by dumping Pace Academy, 107-32, even as Jubilee Christian Academy won its last three games to clinch the other outright semifinal berth in the Juniors Division of the 2nd Philippine Ching Yuen Athletic Association (PCYAA) basketball tournament at Uno High School Gym in Tondo, Manila.
The Judenites played without leading scorer Renzel Yongco due to a fever but still won by a mile as 14 players fielded in by Coach Luis Nolasco made it to the scoring column, led by Maynard Yap with 16 points plus seven steals.
Daniel Pua tallied 15 points and eight boards while Earl See, Christian Carlos and Calvin Uy combined for 34 points as the Judenites completed the seven-game sweep that gave them a twice-to-beat advantage in the Final 4.
Article continues after this advertisementJubilee also won convincingly, beating Saint Peter the Apostle School, 68-54, to tie Philippine Cultural College at 5-2.
JCA, however, emerged as the No. 2 team due to the winner-over-the-other rule, thus earning an automatic semifinal berth plus a twice-to-beat bonus.
Lance Tan led JCA with 20 points while Miko Cheng and Paolo Lim added 17 and 15.
