Valmayor propels UP past UST, into UAAP football Final 4

MANILA, Philippines — Jinggoy Valyamor had two goals in a four-minute span and University of the Philippines thumped University of Santo Tomas, 4-1, for the first Final Four berth in the UAAP Season 77 men’s football tournament at the FEU-Diliman pitch.

Valyamor netted a brace before halftime while Carlos Monfort and Vincent Aguilar also scored late in the first half for the Maroon Booters, who lead the standings with 24 points. Valyamor now has a league-high 13 goals.

De La Salle, meanwhile, remained in second after edging University of the East, 1-0, over at the Moro Lorenzo Football Field in Ateneo. Gerald Layumas scored in the 13th minute for the Green Booters.

Ateneo also won, 2-1, at the expense of Adamson while defending champion Far Eastern University dumped National University, 5-1.

FEU made it a double celebration with its women’s team, also the champion in its division, topping UP, 2-0, to advance in the knockout finale.
