MANILA, Philippines-It’s more fun in the Philippines.
With the Philippines in the running to host the 2019 Fiba World Cup, NBA All-Star Pau Gasol believes the country can put on a show.
“If the Philippines can host the World Cup, I’m sure it will be a lot of fun [not only] for the country but also for the players because of their passion for the game and how much they enjoy it, how they live and experience it,” the Spanish Gasol said in an NBA.com.ph report.
Gasol, who now plays for the Chicago Bulls in the NBA, became part of a world-wide audience that witnessed the frenetic style of play that the Philippines brought to the 2014 World Cup.
As exciting as they’ve become, Gilas Pilipinas managed only one win in the tournament.
“We know how passionate Filipino fans are. What great love they have for the game. It was shown this past summer in Spain when they participated in the World Cup. Every game that the Philippines played there was a great atmosphere,” Gasol said.
It was Gasol’s Spain that played hosts to the 2014 Fiba World Cup where Team USA won the gold.
