MANILA, Philippines —The PBA will have a new commissioner by the end of the 2015 Commissioner’s Cup. At least that’s the plan, according to league chairman Patrick Gregorio.
Gregorio said the league’s Board of Governors will convene in a meeting on Feb. 26 to set the criteria in appointing the next commissioner to succeed the incumbent Chito Salud.
Salud had announced on Sunday in a press conference that he will relinquish his role as commissioner after the end of the 40th season, ending a five-year tenure.
“During the board meeting, we will make the criteria to find out who we will find to be our next commissioner,” said Gregorio also during the press conference at the Mall of Asia Arena.
Gregorio said naming a new man for the job by the end of the on-going Commissioner’s Cup allows the league to have a smooth transition from the current commissioner to the next.
“After our discussion with the PBA board, we want to have a new commissioner by the end of the second conference so we they will have ample time to turnover (the tasks) from Salud,” said Gregorio.
