MANILA, Philippines —Exhausted and battling a case of jet lag, Marcus Douthit wasn’t himself in a lopsided loss to NLEX on Tuesday.
Douthit admitted arriving only on Monday night from the US, and not having any ample rest affected his performance that obviously hurt the Elite’s bid for their first-ever back-to-back wins as well.
“Worst game ever we will bounce back next game,” the naturalized Filipino Douthit posted on Twitter shortly following a 106-79 setback to the Road Warriors, who won their first game after a 0-3 start in the Commissioner’s Cup.
The 34-year-old Douthit flew to the States immediately after Blackwater stunned San Miguel Beer last Wednesday to attend to a personal matter.
The 6-foot-10 Douthit scored 15 points and grabbed 12 rebounds but shot just 5-of-21 from the field in close to 40 minutes of action, while his counterpart Al Thornton poured in 39 points on 14-of-20 shooting.
Blackwater, which fell behind by as large as 35 points, shot only 34% from the field while allowing NLEX to shoot 55% in that area. The Elite will face the Globalport Batang Pier next on Sunday.
