Beermen to parade former Best Import AZ Reid next game vs Bolts

PBA: Austria banking on Arizona Reid's leadership, intelligence to help winless Beermen

MANILA, Philippines — San Miguel Beer hopes a change in import will turn its fortunes around after a 0-4 start in the 2015 PBA Commissioner’s Cup.

Beermen head coach Leo Austria said that former Best Import Arizona Reid will replace Ronald Roberts Jr. as the team’s new import starting next game against the surprise leaders Meralco Bolts on Saturday.

Reid is no stranger in the PBA having won the Best Import award twice while suiting up for Rain or Shine in three conferences.

Austria said Reid is the Beermen’s import for the third conference but with Roberts unable to lift the team to a win after four starts, he was forced to take his chances with the undersized Reid.

“Tomorrow (Wednesday) he will practice with us. So he will be our next import in our next game,” said Austria. “Our intention is for him to play in the third conference but since we’re 0-4 with our import, I think we need to have some changes.”

“His leadership and maybe his intelligence,” Austria said on what he sees in Reid, who last saw action in Belgium before making his return to the Philippines.

Austria rued San Miguel’s bad decision-making following a 107-100 loss to Alaska on Tuesday night.

Reid is expected to have his hands full in his early debut for the Beermen with the Bolts, led by arguably the most impressive import so far in Josh Davis, yet to be beaten in five outings.
