Y’husbands invade show biz

/ 01:18 AM February 18, 2015

There was no nosebleed speaking all that Tagalog during the press conference of “YH Tube,” but when he took time out after the question and answer portion, Phil Younghusband’s shirt was so drenched with sweat, it looked like he had just played a whole game of football.

YH Tube is a show featuring sports bloopers from all over the world, mostly from the Philippines, and it will be hosted by brothers Phil and James Younghusband of the Azkals. It will be aired over TV5 at 4:30 p.m. every Saturday starting Feb. 21.

“We wanted to show a different side of Phil and James,” said Sports5 manager Vitto Lazatin. “Everyone knows them to be two of the best football players  to wear a Philippine jersey. They’re talented athletes and dedicated to the game of football. But this  time, they get to show their funny  side.  The two are gifted with great personalities and they love a good laugh every now and then, just like everybody else. All these will come out in YH Tube.”

For the Younghusband sibs, the show  is a welcome change from their routine.  For the past three years, the brothers have been teaching football basics on AksyonTV, but for most Filipinos,  they are best known as serious, dedicated athletes on the football field.

While his kuya spoke openly of  his lovelife, having a non-show biz girlfriend for four years now, Phil has become a master at evading such issues.

From what we gathered from entertainment scribes during the presscon, Phil was linked to a lady named “Bangs” after his breakup with Angel Locsin.

Phil said though that whatever there was between him and Bangs is now over and they’re just friends.

“Are you ready for the show biz life?” I asked Phil when he came out of the dressing room wearing a fresh shirt. I have the gut feel that the new show would open the door to hardcore show biz projects like a movie, that this phase is now a transition from sports to showbiz for the Younghusbands.

Phil said not to worry because he has mastered the art of communication with show biz media. When he wants to keep an information confidential, he can do it.

I believe him. I never found out what caused his breakup with Angel, no matter how hard I tried.
