MANILA, Philippines—A Filipino-American submission specialist is set to fight in the first-ever Ultimate Fighting Championship Card in the Philippines on May 15.
Phillipe Nover, a finalist in The Ultimate Fighter 8, was included in the fight card for UFC Fight Night 66: Edgar vs Faber, an MMA Junkie report said.
UFC officials included Nover, who gets his second chance in the premier mixed martial arts promotion in the world, in the card and will go up against Yui Chul Nam.
Nover (10-5-1 MMA, 0-3 UFC) reached the finals of the lightweight division courtesy of three submission wins, but Efrain Escudero stopped his momentum in December 2008 in his UFC debut.
His next two fights also proved futile as he lost via first round technical knockout to Kyle Bradley in UFC 98 and lost a decision against Rob Emerson in UFC 109.
Nover got his act together after his ouster from the UFC and is now on a three-fight win streak at Bellator MMA to earn another chance at the big leagues.
Born and raised in New York, Nover is born to a Filipino mother and a Polish father.
