MANILA, Philippines—Reigning champion Global finally found its stride as it whipped Team Socceroo, 8-0, Tuesday night to grab the lead in the United Football League at Rizal Memorial Stadium.
Izzo El Habbib regained his scoring touch with two goals, matching the output of Hikaru Minegishi and Mark Hartmann as Global pounced on a weakened Socceroo side which slumped to a third straight loss.
Global thus jacked up its tally to seven points, ahead of Kaya, Stallion and Loyola Meralco which all have six points but have played one less game than the reigning champs.
“Tonight, the boys were sharper in goal,” said Global coach Leigh Manson. “We took our chances better than the last two games.”
“We were able to convert our chances which should have happened in our last two games,” said Global owner Dan Palami whose side managed just a combined three goals in their first two matches.
