FIVB sets deadline for Larong Volleyball ng Pilipinas Inc. elections

MANILA, Philippines—The FIVB (international volleyball federation) has granted the fledgling Larong Volleyball ng Pilipinas Inc. until the end of February to come up with a set of elected officers which was a requirement for its recognition.

The election of officers, which is the only remaining item to complete the new body’s legitimacy, will be held within the next few days when major stakeholders UAAP, NCAA, Shakeys V-League and Philippine Superliga formalize their inclusion to the LVPI.

LVPI interim president and Philippine Olympic Committee vice president Joey Romasanta Wednesday said he is not sure if he will run for president. But sources said FIVB recommended the president to come from among the major stakeholders.

Among the top runners for the LVPI chief is PSL president Ramon “Tats” Suzara who is also marketing and development chair of the Asian Volleyball Confederation, and member of the FIVB development commission.

A smooth transition, however, is in the offing after POC president Jose “Peping” Cojuangco Jr., met with former Philippine Amateur Volleyball Association president Victorico Chavez, and players led by Gretchen Ho last Tuesday.

Ho, one of the most vocal members of the Philippine Volleyball Federation-formed Amihan women’s team, said in her Twitter account: “Happy to say we’ve formed an equally satisfying resolution to the problem. Watch Out.”

Romasanta said the LVPI hasn’t made a commitment yet on the inclusion of Amihan players, who are training as the national team, to the squad for the Southeast Asian Games and the Asian women’s under-23.
