PBA commissioner Salud summons Purefoods import after Pacquiao ‘joke’

MANILA, Philippines—This time, it ain’t no joke.

PBA Commissioner Chito Salud has summoned Purefoods import Daniel Orton for his post-match comments dissing Kia playing-coach Manny Pacquiao and game officials on Wednesday night.

Purefoods Star Hotshots lost to Pacquiao’s Kia Carnival 84-95 and adding insult to the loss, Orton fouled out of the game with only six points and three rebounds in 19 minutes of play.

According to a report from Spin.ph, Salud is set to meet Orton on Friday at 1 p.m. at the PBA Office in Eastwood to hear the import’s side before deciding on probable penalties.

After the match, an incensed Orton described Pacquiao’s career in the PBA as “a joke” and that the referees were “making a mockery of the game.”

“This game is seriously a joke. The way the game was going, the refs took the game that I know and love and they made it into a mockery,” Orton said. “(Pacquiao playing in the PBA) That’s the joke. That’s part of the joke I was talking about. Professional boxer, yeah, okay. Congressman, alright. Professional basketball player, no. It’s a joke. Seriously, it’s a joke.”

Purefoods have gone 1-2 during Orton’s stay after their perfect 3-0 start with stand-in import Marqus Blakely.
