FEU makes bid for 4th seed, eliminates Adamson in playoff race
MANILA, Philippines—Making a case for the Final Four are the Far Eastern University Lady Tamaraws as they dispatched the Adamson University Lady Falcons, 25-20, 25-21, 25-18, in their last match of the UAAP Season 77 Volleyball Tournament on Saturday afternoon at Arena in San Juan.
FEU tied the University of Santo Tomas Golden Tigresses with a 6-8 win-loss record and are at a joint seat for No. 4.
Geneveve Casugud gave FEU the match point off a running spike that bounced off the Adamson defense making it 24-15.
Article continues after this advertisementFEU, however, squandered three more match points allowing Adamson to claw back to 24-18.
Mary Palma would seal it for FEU with a well-timed block on Amanda Villanueva that sent the ball careening back to the Adamson side.
Lady Tamaraws head coach Shaq de los Santos said they had a little extra motivation in the game against Adamson that dates back to Season 76.
Article continues after this advertisement“They were the team that eliminated us last year so that’s what I told the players for some high morale,” De los Santos said.
He added that all of his players were showing that walk of confidence which happened on that perfect time just before the playoffs.
UST and FEU are locked at fourth with 6-8 records and UP could possibly join them if the Lady Fighting Maroons defeat the National University Lady Bulldogs on Sunday to make it a threesome in the fourth spot.
Bernadeth Pons and Palma each had 12 points for FEU while Casugud added 10.
Mylene Paat led the 5-9 Adamson with 11 points as they crashed to seventh seed.
