PBA: Warner, Romeo tow Globaport past Blackwater

MANILA, Philippines — Import Calvin Warner posted a huge double-double while Terrence Romeo continued his scoring binge as Globalport dumped Blackwater, 101-78, and moved above the .500 mark in the 2015 PBA Commissioner’s Cup Sunday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
The rock-solid Warner muscled his way to 17 points and a season-high, franchise-best 30 rebounds for the Batang Pier, who notched their second straight win and improved to 4-3.
“Honestly, until now I’m still getting to know him,” Globalport interim coach Eric Gonzales said of 34-year-old Warner, who has spent the chunk of his basketball career overseas. “I still don’t know him that much. What I only about him is he strictly plays inside and he has that sense of maturity that helps the team even in practice.”
Romeo had a game-high 25 points that went with six rebounds as he and Warner were just too much for the Elite to handle.

Romeo was his lightning quick self with as repeatedly obliterated Blackwater’s defense with his wizardry with the leather while Warner brought the thunder inside, highlighted by a two emphatic put back dunks in the fourth quarter.
In a scintillating fourth quarter by Globalport, Warner skied high for a one-handed follow up slam, Romeo converted a three-point play before hitting a 3-pointer and Warner brought the crowd to its feet with reverse put back dunk off a miss by Jewel Ponferada for a 90-63 lead with 7:38 left.
Import Marcus Douthit paced the Elite with 19 points and 17 rebounds while Brian Heruela added 17 points and seven assists. Blackwater dropped to 1-5 following back-to-back losses with its breakthrough victory over San Miguel Beer two weeks ago now a distant memory.
The Batang Pier also recorded the most rebounds in their franchise’s young history with 74 as they out-rebounded the Elite, who also shot just 36% from the field, by 29.
