Ateneo reaches finals of UAAP men’s volleyball

MANILA, Philippines—Ateneo made it to the finals of the men’s volleyball division for the second straight year after nipping Adamson, 25-16, 25-12, 26-28, 25-20, Wednesday in their UAAP season 77 final four match up.

The top-seeded Blue Eagles were in total control in the first two sets but met resistance in the third set as the Falcons got their acts together to extend the match.

Ateneo trailed early in the fourth set, 8-7, but took over in time to finally put away Adamson.

Help was aplenty for reigning MVP Marck Espejo, who finished with 22 points, as Ysrael Marasigan added a team-best 23 points including five blocks and four service aces while Joshua Villanueva chipped in 11.

Only Michael Sudaria had a double-digit output for the Falcons with 10 points including two aces.

Ateneo will face the victor of the final four match between no. 2 University of Santo Tomas and defending champion National University, which extended to a rubber match, in a best-of-three finale.
