The Philippines split its opening games in the ongoing 10th Asian Women’s Softball Championship in Nantou, Taiwan.
The Blu Girls got going with a four-inning, 14-0 rout of Hong Kong Tuesday but absorbed a 3-0 loss from North Korea in their second outing the following day at the Ciaoguang field.
At presstime, the Filipinos were playing against South Korea in this tournament that will determine Asia’s bet for next year’s world championship.
A nine-run explosion against Hong Kong in the second inning highlighted the impressive start by the Blu Girls whose trip was funded by the PSC and supported by Cebuana Lhuillier, Pera Padala, Le Soleil de Boracay and Cebuana Lhuillier Insurance Solutions.
The Blu Girls also played well against the North Koreans but couldn’t get the hits when they needed them.
“Breaks of the game,” said coach Ana Santiago after the Blu Girls blew two scoring chances in the sixth and seventh innings.
The Filipinos loaded the bags in the sixth after two outs and also had two base runners in the seventh but both times failed to even get a run.
