MANILA, Philippines — Naturalized Filipino and Blackwater import Marcus Douthit rode a bike en route to the Smart Araneta Coliseum for a game against Barangay Ginebra to avoid heavy traffic on Wednesday.
Douthit said he’s been riding the bike for one and a half years now, but Wednesday was the first time he hopped onto one going to a PBA game.
“This is the first I rode a bike going here. It’s traffic everywhere,” said the 6-foot-11 Douthit after the game where he had 16 points, 14 rebounds and three blocks in a losing cause.
Traffic stalled in most parts of Metro Manila due to road closures for the 29th Edsa People Power revolution celebration.
On his way out of the Big Dome, a number of fans who were waiting outside the south gate were amused to see the 34-year-old Douthit casually cycling past them with a matching helmet on.
A woman chased Douthit and, despite the Elite losing their third straight stint and fifth overall in six outings, he gladly stopped and obliged for a quick selfie.
