MANILA, Philippines — Undefeated pound-for-pound fighter Floyd Mayweather Jr. is expected to begin his training camp for his upcoming showdown with Manny Pacquiao next week.
According to Ben Thompson of fighthype.com, Mayweather will start his training on Tuesday, March 2 — exactly two months before the scheduled May 2 (US time) megafight at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
“I think I (have) seen a major change in Pacquiao,” Mayweather told Thompson in a recent interview. “He may not be the same fighter, but this is a guy that I cannot overlook. He got here somehow and some way. You never take nothing for granted because anything can happen.”
Pacquiao had already kicked off his preparations last week and will be flying to the US Saturday night for the rigid part of his training at his longtime trainer Freddie Roach’s Wild Card Gym in Hollywood.
Before leaving, Pacquiao, also a playing-coach in the Philippine Basketball Association, is expected to suit up for his team Kia Carnival on Saturday against the Blackwater Elite.
In fact, as a sendoff to the Filipino champion, the PBA has opened the bleachers section of the San Juan Arena to the first 2,000 fans.
