$300-million revenues expected for Mayweather-Pacquiao bout

MANILA, Philippines — The richest fight in boxing history could make about $300 million when it’s all been said and done.

Top Rank honcho Bob Arum sees this as a possibility given the high demand for the May 2 megafight between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao.

“The interest is amazing even from people who do not follow sports, people who do not follow boxing,” said Arum in an interview with boxingscene.com. “Wherever you go, people are talking about the fight.”

Mayweather and Pacquiao, the top two pound-for-pound fighters today, are set to make the most money in their careers in one fight.

Mayweather, who is getting the better half of the agreed 60-40 revenue split, could end up receiving at least $180 million while Pacquiao at least $120 million, as per Arum’s calculations.

“We have to do the math, after adding everything I think the [amount of money] to distribute will be $300 million, 60 percent for Mayweather which is $180 million and 40 percent for Pacquiao which is $120 million,” Arum said, who added that Mayweather-Pacquiao showdown could also generate 4 to 5 million pay-per-view buys.

“Floyd loves cars and probably he could buy so many cars that he would satisfy every dealer in Las Vegas and I know that a lot of the money that Manny will win is going to go to charity in the Philippines.”
