MANILA, Philippines—Philippine Merchant Marine School bucked a slow start to repulse gritty Olivarez College, 71-64 and rule the 22nd National Capital Region Athletic Association (NCRAA) men’s basketball Monday at Makati Coliseum.
Most Valuable Player Jess Nicole Quilatan, Sany Jay Trinidad, Rocky Antonares and Domark Matillano supplied the firepower as the Mariners used a crippling third quarter attack to subdue the Sea Lions.
“My players played with their hearts out. Our adjustments worked very well,” said PMMS coach Aldrin Morante. The Mariners needed double-overtime to beat the Sea Lions, 87-85 in Game One of the best-of-three series.
Quilatan was joined in the Mythical Five by teammate Jake Israel Yagonia, Olivarez’s Mark Ollano and Previl Bermudez and PSBA-QC star forward Aristotle Dionisio.
In the women’s basketball finals, reigning National State Colleges and Universities titlist Rizal Technological U swept Emilio Aguinaldo Cavite, 75-54. Dennis U. Eroa, Inquirer Libre
