MANILA, Philippines—If the Floyd Mayweather Jr.-Manny Pacquiao Super Fight on May 2 (May 3 in Manila) ends by knockout, it’s likely that the unbeaten American will be the one sprawled on the canvas.

That’s because Pacquiao definitely packs the bigger wallop as can be gleaned from his ring record of 57 wins (38 by knockouts), against five losses, 3 draws.

Though Pacquiao’s last stoppage came in 2009 at the expense of Miguel Cotto in the 12th round, it occurred because of legitimate exchanges.

Mayweather (47-0, 26 KOs) last scored a knockout at the expense of Victor Ortiz in the fourth round in 2011, but it’s a controversial one.

Pouncing on an unsuspecting Ortiz, Mayweather unloaded a left hook and a right hand with only one second to go after Ortiz apologized earlier for head-butting him.

Ortiz landed on his back and Mayweather was credited with another KO victim.

Outside of Ortiz, Mayweather last knockout came at the expense of Briton Ricky Hatton, who got nailed in the 10th round in 2007.

In contrast, Pacquiao took just two rounds to send Hatton to Dreamland in 2009.

Against Oscar De La Hoya, Mayweather sweated it out for 12 rounds and squeaked out a split decision in 2007 in what became the richest fight ever.

Pacquiao, on the other hand, made De La Hoya quit on his stool after the eighth round.

Against Shane Mosley in 2010, Mayweather won unanimously but never put his rival in trouble.

In contrast, Pacquiao knocked down Mosley in the third round in 2011 and could have easily finished him off were if not for Mosley’s incessant gloves-touching that took the fierceness out of Pacquiao. Roy C. Luarca
