BAGUIO CITY—Meet Manny Pacquiao, the teacher.

During his morning workout at the track and field training grounds at Teachers’ Camp here on Thursday, Sarangani Rep. Manny Pacquiao brought along fellow boxers and taught them boxing “the Pacquiao way.”

“I shared with them my training and strategies to [help them] become faster,” he said.

Pacquiao spent most of his time alternately sparring and running with unbeaten featherweight champion Lorenzo Villanueva.

Villanueva, the World Boxing Organization’s Oriental featherweight titlist, had been taken in by Pacquiao’s coach Freddie Roach for training at the Wild Card Boxing Gym in Hollywood, California.

Villanueva has a 21-0 record.

Pacquiao said he will be helping these boxers in their training sessions throughout his three-week stay here.

“I will train them slowly and in consonance with my own training… We have to train religiously. It will be more of the same training but [with a] different strategy,” he said.

Mexican boxer Juan Manuel Marquez, whom Pacquiao will fight for the third time this November, is no push-over, said Buboy Fernandez, Pacquiao’s friend and trainer.

“We need to prepare differently for Marquez,” Fernandez said.

Pacquiao’s usual training period for a fight takes two months but he has reportedly asked for two more weeks to prepare for his return bout with Marquez.

Pacquiao spent three hours training at the Teachers’ Camp with Roach and strength and conditioning coach Alex Ariza.
