MANILA, Philippines—Archer Gabriel Moreno has been named one of the five top athletes to watch in the 28th Southeast Asian Games in Singapore.
Moreno, who won the first Olympic gold medal for the Philippines in the 2014 Nanjing Youth Olympic Games, was rated highly by Singapore organizers along with swimmer Joseph Isaac Schooling of Singapore, badminton’s Ratchanok Intanon of Thailand, Malaysian diver Pandelela Rinong Anak Pamg and long jumper Maria Natalia Londa of Indonesia.
The 16-year-old from La Salle Greenhills was described by the SEAG website (www.seagames2015.com) as an inspiration for the Filipinos as he also sets his sights on the Rio 2016 Summer Olympics.
The grandson of show biz talent patriarch German Moreno, Gab broke into national consciousness when he won the mixed doubles event with China’s Li Jiaman in the YOG, a meet for the best 14-18 year old athletes in the world. June Navarro
