MANILA, Philippines—Best friends since time immemorial, Manny Pacquiao and assistant Buboy Fernandez has been through a lot together.

This time, it was a wayward punch from Pacquiao straight to Fernandez’ face.

Fernandez said that he suffered a busted lip during the second day of Pacquiao’s training camp in Los Angeles after working mitts with the Filipino boxing champion.

“It’s normal for both of us,” Fernandez told GMA News in Filipino. “He (Pacquiao) then hugged me and told me to stop moving because that was a strong punch.”

Fernandez handles the mitts with Pacquiao while trainer Freddie Roach is in Macau attending to another one of his fighters, Zou Shiming.

He added that his nose also got the painful end of Pacquiao’s punches throughout their training sessions.

“They think that my nose is not pointed, that’s normal. That’s been hit so many times. It’s okay,” Fernandez said.
