MANILA, Philippines – Two Filipino bets moved to the final 32 of the 2011 Women’s World 9-Ball Championship Friday.
Gunning for another world title, Rubilen Amit made short work of Venezuela’s Carylnn Sanchez, 7-2, Friday and has kept a perfect record so far in a tournament with $30, 000 at stake for the winner.
Amit, the first Filipino female world champion in billiards after her 2009 conquest of the Women’s World 10-ball, defeated unseeded Sinem Koktem of Turkey, 7-1.
Meanwhile, Iris Ranola survived the gruelling stretch in the losers’ bracket and also made it to the round of 32 as she put away Hsiao-Chi Lin of Chinese Taipei, 7-5.
Ranola absorbed her first defeat in Shenyang, China, in the hands of China’s
Xiao-Tin Pan, 1-7, Thursday which pushed her to a tougher road.
But Ranola bundled out India’s Indira Gowda, 7-1, before overcoming Lin.
