Senate, AFP fives eye UNTV Cup semis

MANILA, Philippines—Defending champion Armed Forces of the Philippines and Senate try to complete the semifinal cast Sunday when they start their quarterfinal series against their respective rivals in the 3rd UNTV Cup at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City.

The AFP Cavaliers battle the Philippine National Police Responders at 4:30 p.m. with the former needing just a win in their best-of-three series to claim a semifinal berth.

Mentored by former PBA MVP Kenneth Duremdes, the Senate Defenders also go for a semifinal spot when they clash with the Department of Justice Boosters at 3 p.m. in the tournament initiated by multiawarded broadcaster Daniel Dazon as part of UNTV’s advocacy to keep the country’s public servants in tip-top shape.

Both AFP and Senate claimed twice-to-beat privileges after finishing third and fourth, respectively, after the double round eliminations.

If they prevail on Sunday, the Defenders will face No. 2 Judiciary Magis in the Last 4 while the Cavaliers take on topnotchers Malacañang Patriots.
