MANILA, Philippines — Back in front.

University of Santo Tomas is set to reclaim the UAAP general championship after running second behind La Salle in the last two years.

UST’s campaign this Season 77 rode on championships in men’s and women’s judo, men’s taekwondo, women’s beach volleyball and women’s track and field.

UST also got a boost from its men’s and women’s tennis teams, men’s and women’s fencing and men’s beach volleyball which placed second.

Bagging third place are UST’s men’s volleyball teams, men’s swimming, men’s chess, men’s track and field, men’s table tennis, poomsae and women’s taekwondo teams.

La Salle, which won the last two overall championships and ended UST’s 14-year reign, yielded the crown after the Lady Spikers got swept by the Ateneo Lady Eagles in women’s volleyball on Saturday.

According to UST’s official student publication The Varsitarian, the Tigers will wind up with a minimum 281 points – edging La Salle by a point as per its latest and unofficial tally.
