Tennis sees 5 SEAG golds

MANILA, Philippines—Sports commissioner Buddy Andrada is optimistic Filipino netters can win as many as five gold medals in the Southeast Asian Games set June 5 to 16 in Singapore.

The honorary life president of the Asian Tennis Federation said the relatively young national team packs a lot of talent.

“I have been looking at the opposition in the SEA Games and I see the possibility that we can win four golds, even five, if we get the breaks,” said Andrada.

Andrada thinks the Filipinos can win gold in the men’s team, men’s doubles, mixed doubles, men’s singles and women’s singles events.

Expected to banner the men’s team are Treat Huey, Ruben Gonzales, Francis Casey Alcantara, Jeson Patrombon and Patrick John Tierro.
The Philippines won a single gold in the 2011 Indonesia SEA Games through Huey and Denise Dy.
