Kaya whips Socceroo, regains UFL lead

MANILA, Philippines—Kaya unleashed four goals in the second half to whip Team Socceroo, 5-0, Tuesday night and gain top spot in the United Football League at Rizal Memorial Stadium.

Five different players scored for coach Adam Reekie’s side which bounced back from a 1-2 loss to Ceres-La Salle last Saturday.

The lopsided victory allowed Kaya to climb to the top of the table with 15 points, ahead of Loyola Meralco and Stallion on goal difference.

“It was a win we needed,” said Reekie whose side has a league-leading five clean sheets this season.

Facing a team that has collected only a single point so far this season, Kaya took 21 minutes to open the scoring through defender Alfred Osei.

But Kaya would have to wait until the second half to double the advantage, as substitute Younnouse Yaogo who found the back of the net in the 59th minute.

OJ Porteria came of the bench to also score and set up Diego Barrera before skipper Aly Borromeo capped a fine display with a stoppage time goal.
