Septuagenarians vie in Atleta Ako

FEMALE racers from seven to 70 put their endurance to a test in the Atleta Ako Women’s Aquathlon starting at 7 a.m. at Philsports Complex tomorrow.

The 74-year-old Polly Joson, teaming up with granddaughter Isabella Pascua, and the 70-year-old Charry Parpan, with daughter Lara Parpan as partner, have been listed as the oldest racers in the 500m swim-6K run event.

Carissa Parco and Daphne Maliwat, both aged seven, also signed up for the race that drew 250 participants.

“We come in different curves and sizes, but this shouldn’t stop us from doing the sports we love,” Atleta Ako’s Cecil Hufana said.

Former national triathlon champion Sandra Araullo-Gonzalez leads the celebrity field that also include former swimmer and commissioner Akiko Thomson-Guevara of the Philippine Sports Commission, actress Angelika dela Cruz and singer Sitti.  Jasmine W. Payo
