Elorde grandsons seek regional titles Wednesday

MANILA, Philippines—A quadruple championship card, featuring two grandsons of a boxing great, will spice up the 15th Gabriel “Flash” Elorde Memorial Awards and Banquet of Champions set Wednesday at  Manila Hotel.

Juan Martin “Bai” Elorde, 30, fights Hirotsugu Yamamoto of Japan for the WBO Asia Pacific super featherweight championship, while Juan Miguel “The Boss” Elorde, 28, battles Tabthong Tor Buamas for the vacant WBO Asia Pacific Junior featherweight belt. VinVin Rufino tackles Mark Gil Melligen for the OPBF featherweight title while Monico Laurente and Marco Demecillo Singwancha clash for the PH bantamweight crown.

The event starts with two preliminaries at 3 p.m. before the Elorde Banquet of Champions at 7 p.m. It is supported by PCSO, Hapee Toothpaste, Pagcor, Contour Rehabilitation and Wellness Inc., Cobra, Manila Hotel, Southpaw Bar, Bai & Mig Party Favors and Elorde Sports Center.
