MANILA, Philippines—The unparalleled Adamson squad heads into the UAAP softball championship series again Tuesday as the heavy favorite to go all the way.
Habitually pouncing on the rest of the field, the Lady Falcons try to sustain their dominant form against University of the Philippines in Game 1 at 9 a.m. at Rizal Memorial Baseball Stadium.
The Lady Falcons—the four-time champions who remain undefeated since 2011—jumped straight to the title round and earned a thrice-to-beat edge versus the Lady Maroons as incentives for completing a 12-game sweep of the eliminations.
The bonus is equivalent to a 1-0 advantage in a best-of-five series.
Last season’s Most Valuable Player Annalie Benjamen and Queeny Sabobo banner the Lady Falcons, who will also vie to stretch their incredible winning streak to 61 games.
Although clear underdogs, the No. 2 Lady Maroons aim to build on their commanding semifinal win over University of Santo Tomas where they nailed the last title berth.
“We are prepared to beat Adamson,” said UP coach Kiko Diaz.
The Lady Maroons banked on an explosive six-run fifth inning to bundle out the Tigresses in an abbreviated 9-1 triumph in their do-or-die semifinal match last Sunday.
The Lady Maroons had been at the brink of an exit last week as the third-ranked Tigresses hacked out a 7-2 upset that forged the winner-take-all contest.
