LONDON— Harry Kane scored 80 seconds into his England debut on Friday, providing another eye-catching moment in his outstanding breakthrough season in a 4-0 victory over Lithuania in European Championship qualifying.
The 21-year-old striker replaced captain Wayne Rooney and headed England’s fourth goal into an open net in the 73rd minute at Wembley Stadium.
Rooney, Danny Welbeck and Raheem Sterling also scored as England made it five wins out of five in Group E.
Although Rooney is now only two away from Bobby Charlton’s England record 49 goals, this was Kane’s night as he scored with his third touch of the ball.
The season began with Kane on the fringes of the Tottenham squad but his England goal added to 29 netted for his club during a rapid rise.
