Superliga: Foton halts Shopinas streak
Foton stopped a streaking Shopinas dead on its track with a 25-17, 25-17, 25-17 victory while Philips Gold picked up its first win at the expense of Mane ‘N Tail, 25-19, 27-25, 25-16, last night in the Philippine Superliga All Filipino Conference at Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan.
Foton coach Vilet Ponce de Leon arrived late in the first set but her absence was hardly felt by the Lady Tornadoes, who rammed through the Lady Clickers defenses, particularly rookie hotshot Nicole Tiamzon with 19 points.
Myla Pablo topscored with 14 points, while Michelle Gumabao and Rossan Fajardo delivered 10 points each for the Lady Slammers, who improved to 1-2, tying the Lady Stallions.
Tiamson, the University of the Philippines top gunner, also had 15 kills, three aces and one block.
The feisty, high-leaping Tiamson, who stands 5-foot-5, was simply unstoppable firing from all angles. She was backed up by Patty Orendain with 13 markers.
