BARANGAY Ginebra’s early exit in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup has triggered changes in the coaching staff, as expected, with Frankie Lim taking over from Ato Agustin.

But what’s stunning are trade rumors that, according to a reliable source, could involve national team point guard LA Tenorio.

Despite a high-profile roster, the underachieving Gin Kings bombed out of the PBA Commissioner’s Cup on Saturday following a heartbreaking 92-91 loss to Rain or Shine in the quarterfinals.

Lim, who was hired before the start of this tournament to be Agustin’s main assistant, has been named as the new head coach.

After steering the San Beda Red Lions to numerous titles in the NCAA, this will be Lim’s first head coaching job in the PBA. He will be the third coach in the last four tournaments for Ginebra, which fired Jeffrey Cariaso in favor of Agustin after the Philippine Cup.

Meanwhile, the Inquirer source also said that management is working on a deal that would send Tenorio to Globalport in exchange for rookie Stanley Pringle, and another that would ship Chris Ellis to Meralco for a yet-to-be-determined player.

If ever, Globalport will be the fourth team for Tenorio, the one-time Jones Cup MVP and Fiba World Cup veteran who has seen his playing time dwindle over the past couple of conferences.

Globalport, on the other hand, could be letting go of its finest player—again —after agreeing to ship perennial All-Star Alex Cabagnot back to San Miguel Beer to beat the trading deadline in the Philippine Cup, which the Beermen won over Alaska.
