Angara bats for P2-B sports hub

It’s about time to build a modern sports training center for the national athletes.

Senator Sonny Angara is pushing for the passage of a bill that will put up a sports complex at par with the best training venues in the world.

“While we are requiring our national athletes to excel in competitions and bring honor to the country, they should also be adequately supported,” said Angara, chair of the Senate committee on games, amusement and sports.

He said a training center furnished with state-of-the-art equipment, technology, facilities and modern amenities would translate into impressive performances for Filipino athletes in international multievent meets such as the Asian Games and the Olympics.

Angara said he was motivated to propose the complex, to be called the Philippine Amateur Sports Training Center, after seeing the country’s dilapidated sports facilities such as the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex, which was built 86 years ago, and the 40-year-old Philsports Complex.

Under Angara’s Senate Bill No. 2371, the ownership, administration, management, operation and maintenance of the center are vested to the PSC.

A budget of P2 billion will be allocated for the facility’s construction and thereafter, P55 million will be appropriated to finance its maintenance, operation and management.
