Pacquiao locks down on final stretch of camp—report

manny-pacquiaoWith less than a month to go before the biggest fight of his career, Manny Pacquiao has locked down his training at Wild Card Gym in Los Angeles.

Pacquiao told Los Angeles Times that he will focus on his welterweight unification bout against Floyd Mayweather Jr. and lock the gym’s doors beginning Sunday (Manila time) before and after working hours.

He intends to eliminate all media interviews until his media day on April 15.

Trainer Freddie Roach said he and his fighter have done so much media exposure that it took a toll on Pacquiao.

“Since the red carpet [March 11] until now, we’ve done so much press—triple any other fight—he’s a little tired of it,” Roach said. “I told him I’ll pick up the slack if needed. I can be tired. He can’t.”

Pacquiao, as LA Times reported, put an utmost importance on the mental preparation for boxing’s most lucrative fight that is expected to shatter all pay-per-view records and with tickets selling for almost $10,000.

“You have to focus without interruption after your activities of jogging, training … I don’t want to focus on anything other than boxing,” Pacquiao said.

“I’m not complaining about interviews. They help us promote the fight and help the people know what’s happening in the camps. This is just the first time I’m asking for time to focus. There’s something I need to achieve in this camp, especially mentally.”
