Over 100 Little League teams in eight divisions will vie for slots in the Philippine Series National Championship in Iloilo City on April 19 to 26 where the champi ons will advance to the Asia Pacific tournament.
Little League Philippines administrator Jolly Gomez said a satellite elimination tournament in Marikina City will also be staged to accommodate Luzon-based teams that do not have the means to travel to Iloilo City.
Gomez, also a commissioner of the Philippine Sports Commission, said the Philippines is considered a strong contender in softball along with Japan and Chinese Taipei.
“Our softball program is so strong that if you look at the composition of the team, most, if not all, of them are products of the Little League program,” said Gomez during yesterday’s Philippine Sportswriters Association forum at Shakey’s Malate.
The winners of the Asia Pacific meet will advance to the 2015 Little League World Series in several venues in the United States.
Gomez said the Philippines will see action in baseball and softball for both boys and girls.
