University of Santo Tomas bagged a record 40th seniors general championship and won its 16th juniors overall crown at the end of UAAP Season 77.
In the final tally released Wednesday, the Growling Tigers ended the La Salle Green Archers’ two-year reign in the seniors division.
Behind victories in women’s beach volleyball, women’s athletics and title sweeps in judo, UST reasserted its status with 285 points.
UST also took runner-up honors in men’s beach volleyball, men’s and women’s lawn tennis, men’s and women’s lawn tennis, men’s and women’s fencing, and went third in men’s volleyball, softball, women’s taekwondo, poomsae, men’s swimming, men’s table tennis, men’s athletics and men’s chess.
La Salle celebrated championships in men’s and women’s table tennis and men’s chess to finish second with 278 points.
UST also wrested the high school general championship crown from season host University of the East.
The Tiger Cubs won for the eighth time by collecting 131 points despite having only the girls’ swimming title.
The Junior Warriors settled for second with 125 points.
University of the Philippines wound up third with 234 points with titles in poomsae, women’s badminton and women’s taekwondo.
