TREAT HUEY and new partner Scott Lipsky reached the doubles finals of the US Men’s Clay Court Championships before losing the championship to Ricardaz Berankis of Lithuania and Teymuraz Gabashvili of Russia, 6-4, 6-4, Sunday at River Oaks Country Club in Houston.
Huey and Lipsky downed Poland’s Mariusz Fyrstenberg and Mexico’s Santiago Gonzales, 6-7 (3), 4-3 retired, in the semifinals. They bundled out Johan Brunstrom of Sweden and Donald Young of the US, 5-7, 6-4, 10-8, in the quarterfinals.
But Berankis and Teymuraz also eliminated top seeds Bob and Mike Bryan, 7-6 (7), 7-5) in the quarterfinals.
The American Lipsky, 33, is currently ranked 37th while Huey is climbing his way back in the world ranking where he slipped from 20th last year to 65th. Marc Anthony Reyes
