HOLLYWOOD— There’s no doubt on Manny Pacquiao’s mind as to whose hands the referee will raise after his titanic showdown with Floyd Mayweather Jr. on May 2 in Las Vegas.
Asked about his expectations of the world welterweight fight, Pacquiao did not hesitate: “[I’ll be] champion.”
Appearing as guest before a full-packed congregation at Shepherd of the Hills Church in Los Angeles, Pacquiao said he wants to use the Fight of the Century as an instrument to “glorify the name of Lord.”
Pacquiao battles the undefeated Mayweather over 12 rounds at MGM Grand Garden Arena seeking just that.
For sure, Pacquiao knows that prayers alone won’t suffice to foil Mayweather.
Chief trainer Freddie Roach and his staff have declared the eight-division world champion already fit to fight Mayweather 20 days before fight night—despite the three straight cancellation of his sparring sessions for various reasons.
Roach is said to have canceled last Saturday’s sparring because he feared that Pacquiao might overtrain.
