The Philippine Postal Corporation has announced it would release this April special postage stamps featuring Filipino boxing icon Manny Pacquiao before his fight against undefeated Floyd Mayweather Jr. on May 3 (Manila time).
“With the People’s Champ’s success in helping reclaim international respect for the Philippines through his boxing skills and power, PHLPost has added another historic achievement to Manny’s long list of accolades,” the PHLPost said in a statement Tuesday.
The PHLPost said it would release 500,000 copies featuring a photo of Pacquiao, which would be released at P10 each. It added that about 30,000 copies of the souvenir sheet would also be released at P40 each.
This “Fight of the Century” postage stamps featuring the nation’s pride and world boxing champion is a fitting tribute to his exceptional character and ability that truly unites the nation whenever he fights,” Postmaster General Josie Dela Cruz said.
PHLPost said the stamps were approved by the Philippine Stamp Committee composed of representatives from the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA), the Philippine Philatelic Federation (PPF) and the National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP).
It said he Pacquiao’s photo was given by Office of Representative Pacquiao, adding that PHLPost artist Rodine Teodoro made the lay-out of the regular Pacquiao stamps, the souvenir sheets and official first day cover. TVJ
