PHINSAF kicks off Regatta series with 12 teams
MANILA, Philippines—The Philippine Inter-Island Sailing Foundation (PHINSAF), a nonstock, nonprofit organization composed of the amateur Philippine-based sailors, kicked off its 2011 Regatta Traveler’s series Saturday at the Pico de Loro Cove in Nasugbu, Batangas.
The regatta was participated by 12 teams representing top amateur sailors in the country.
Pico de Loro was the first stop in what is envisioned to be a seven-stop regatta series, which will also include other top sailing destinations such as Subic, Anilao and Cebu, among others.
Article continues after this advertisementPHINSAF chair Monchu Garcia said the organization continues to hold various sailing activities in the country to encourage more Filipinos to take up the sport.
“We just want to re-introduce sailing to Filipinos because the Philippines can be considered as the ‘Caribbean of Asia,’” Garcia added.
Rona Torres-Tan, senior vice president of Costa del Hamilo Inc. CDHI), meanwhile expressed support for the growth of the sport in the country.
