Navy, Baguio down Shakey’s V-L foes

Pushed to the limit, Philippine Navy brandished its attacking depth to nip Fourbees-Perpetual Help, 23-25, 25-12, 25-15, 20-25, 15-11, Thursday night for its second win in the Shakey’s V-League Open Conference at Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan.

Lilet Mabbayad fired 22 hits to lead four other Lady Sailors in double-digits as Navy snapped a two-game skid and improved to 2-2.

It was Navy’s first victory since the Lady Sailors swept Coast Guard last April 5.

Newcomer Baguio, earlier, nailed its first victory by stunning Coast Guard, 25-27, 25-18, 25-21, 23-25, 15-12.

Florence Magdulid and Cindy Benitez scattered 17 points each for the Summer Spikers.

The loss sent the Lady Dolphins to the cellar with a 4-0 card.

Meanwhile, Cagayan Valley kept its unbeaten record in the Spikers’ Turf men’s tournament with a 25-16, 25-22, 21-25, 26-24 walloping of Philippine Air Force.

Marck Espejo sustained his fiery form with 17 points while Jan Paglinawan and Peter Torres joined forces for 27 hits for the Rising Suns, who rose to 3-0.

The Cignal HD Spikers also barged into the win column of the tournament presented by PLDT Home Ultera after a 25-22, 26-24, 25-22 conquest of Instituto Estetico Manila. Cedelf P. Tupas
