Castro wants PBA to clamp down on racist chants

Talk N’ Text guard Jayson Castro wants the PBA to look into abusive chants directed at African-American players playing in the league as imports.

Throughout the full 48 minutes of the Rain or Shine-TNT Game 2 of the PBA Commissioner’s Cup, Ivan Johnson was the target of racist chants from the bleachers of the Smart-Araneta calling him “monkey” and “gorilla.”

“That’s not right, we’re all equal here,” Castro said after their Game 2 loss against the Painters, 116-108. “No matter the skin color.”

“I want the PBA to look into that.”

Castro was seen gesturing to the crowd trying to keep them quiet and stop with the chants.

“[Ivan’s] here just to play basketball, he’s not hurting anybody, he’s my teammate, It hurts me.”
