Unbeaten PLDT, Cagayan dispute Shakey’s VL lead

UNBEATEN teams PLDT Home Ultera and Cagayan Valley dispute the solo lead when they clash in the Shakey’s V-League Open Conference at Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan.

Led by two time UAAP MVP Alyssa Valdez, the Ultra Fast Spikers are chasing a fourth straight win in the featured match with the Rising Suns at 12:45 p.m.

Meralco faces its toughest test yet against Philippine Army in the second game at 2:45 p.m.

The Power Spikers are out to keep their unbeaten slate against an Army team that has regained confidence after the straight set loss to PLDT last week.

The Lady Troopers are expected to come out strong with Jovelyn Gonzaga hoping to bolster the lineup which already includes battle tested veterans MJ Balse, Rachel Anne Daquis and Tina Salak.

The Rising Suns have streaked to two straight victories to start the tournament but they have yet to face a team of PLDT’s caliber.

In pulling off three straight victories, PLDT never dropped a set but the Ultra Fast Hitters don’t expect to have it easy against the Lady Rising Suns, who also boast of a star studded lineup.

Valdez and Suzanne Roces as well as Jaja Santiago will be pitted against the likes of Aiza Maizo-Pontillas, Rose Vargas and Angeli Tabaquero in what promises to be a blockbuster duel.

Valdez and Roces stood at the forefront of the 25-16, 25-23, 28-26 win over Army.

Two games in the Spikers’ Turf mens tournament sandwich the V-League matches with Army and Cignal colliding at 9 a.m. while Champion Infinity and Air Force square off at 5 p.m.

The Troopers hope to follow up their straight-set romp over the winless Cavite Fourbees Patriots to stay within a game off the pacesetting Cagayan Valley Rising Suns (4-0).

Cignal is coming off a straight set conquest lf Instituto Estetico Manila last Thursday.
