Nonito “The Filipino Flash” Donaire Jr. named his newborn son after a comic character known for its sharp claws and self-healing powers.

Calling the birth of his second son last April 17 (Philippine time) in Las Vegas as “the scariest day” of his life, the 32-year-old boxing champion said that he named his son Jarel Logan after the X-Men character Wolverine.

In an interview with ABS-CBN News, Donaire said that he was very fond of cartoons while growing up.

“I am definitely excited and I am very fond of cartoons. My favorite character is Wolverine and his name is Logan,” he said.

In a post on his Facebook page, Donaire also said that his wife Rachel lost consciousness and suffered from hemorrhage after giving birth to Logan. She lost 2.2 liters of blood but she recovered.

“I felt like my entire world was going to be taken from me n was almost in tears all I could do was pray as I saw my wife lose consciousness and doctors panicking that she was hemorrhaging. She lost 2.2 liters of blood and after ensuring Jarel Logan was pulled and ok, they had to save Rachel. She is stable now and being monitored,” the boxer shared.

Jarel Logan measured 18 inches, five pounds and four ounces when he was born.

In his last fight last March 28 at the Mall of Asia Arena, Donaire’s knocked out Brazilian opponent William Prado in the second round. CC/AJH
