Blaze Spikers sweep Super Liga elims

PETRON made light work of Shopinas, 25-19, 25-12, 25-23, Monday night and capped a 10-game sweep of the eliminations in the Philippine Superliga All Filipino Conference at Cuneta Astrodome.

The talent-heavy Blaze Spikers formally clinched the No. 1 spot and now waits in the semifinals while the teams in the next four rungs of the standings battle it out to make the Final Four.

With big scorers Dindin Manabat, Aby Maraño, Frances Molina and Rachel Daquis doing what they do best, Jen Reyes covered the floor well with 15 digs while also making nine receptions.

Manabat produced 18 points, Maraño added nine, while Molina and Daquis chipped in eight and six points, respectively.

Earlier, Foton and Philips Gold mowed down their respective rivals to keep alive their hopes of making the semifinals outright.

The Tornadoes whipped the Cignal HD Spikers, 25-23, 25-15, 25-15, while the Lady Slammers drubbed the Mane ‘n Tail Lady Stallions 25-21, 25-20, 25-20.

By all indications, Foton will dispute the last automatic semis slot with Shopinas on Thursday.
