Sherwood Classic: Thai, US bet ahead

Paul Harris of the United States and Thailand’s Poosit Supapramai fired four-under-par 68s Wednesday to share the opening round lead in the $60,000 ADT-ICTSI Sherwood Hills Classic in Cavite.

Harris had nines of 36-32 while Poosit assembled a 33-35 card on the ravine-laden layout to post a one-stroke lead over Thailand’s Thammanoon Sriroj, American Josh Salah and Japan’s Masaru Takahashi.

Arnold Villacencio, Nelson Huerva and Orlan Sumcad were the best-placed local bets with 70s as defending champion Charles Hong struggled to a 74.

Former Philippine Open champion Cassius Casas and Frankie Miñoza fired 71s along with six others, including Englishman Nick Redfern and Rey Pagunsan and Rico Depilo.

Harris, like Hong, missed the cut in last week’s Eagle Ridge Invitational won by Arie Irawan of Malaysia. Musong R. Castillo
