Painters repulse Texters, forces Game 7

There will be a Game 7.

Rain or Shine put down Talk N’ Text, 101-93, to extend the PBA Commissioner’s Cup Finals to a deciding seventh game Sunday evening at Smart-Araneta Coliseum.

Gabe Norwood nailed a pull up jumper with 45.7 seconds left to give the Painters a 96-87 lead that pretty much sealed it for them.

Larry Fonacier immediately retaliated with a three-pointer to cut the deficit to 96-90 with 40 seconds left but time was more on Rain or Shine’s favor.

Painters head coach Yeng Guiao said his team was able to sustain their pace for the full 48 minutes which kept the Texters from seizing momentum.

“The only way to beat Talk N’ Text is to be prepared to make stops,” Guiao said. “We were able to challenge a lot of their shots today than we did on Game 5.”

“The guys wanted to win this and extend the series to a Game 7. We want to give ourselves the chance to win a championship on Game 7.”

Rain or Shine ran rampant in the second quarter with an 18-2 rush that gave them a 54-38 lead and the firm control of the game.

Talk N’ Text made it as close as 76-73 in the fourth when Matt Ganuelas-Rosser hit a jumper.

Raymond Almazan once again elevated his game for the Painters as he finished with 18 points, 11 of which came in a rocking first quarter, and 10 boards.

Wayne Chism also had 18 points for Rain or Shine to go along 16 boards but was held to a 4-of-15 shooting from the field.

Paul Lee added 16 points while the injured Jeff Chan had 11.

Ranidel de Ocampo led Talk N’ Text with 21 points while Jayson Castro added 17 points and eight assists.

A frustrated Ivan Johnson had a dismal performance of six points and six rebounds.
