Petron, Shopinas try to seal Superliga title clash Monday

LEAGUE-LEADERS Petron and Shopinas try to set up a championship battle when they face Philips Gold and Foton, respectively, Monday in the Philippine Superliga All Filipino Conference semifinals at Cuneta Astrodome.

The unbeaten Blaze Spikers will face the No. 4 Lady Slammers at 1:30 p.m. while the Lady Clickers will battle the Tornadoes at 4:15.

Petron has not lost in 10 games and, on paper, looks too formidable for neophyte Philips Gold, which reached the Final Four only the other day with a five-set win over Cignal.

“Playing against a team with nothing to lose like Philips Gold is the hardest thing to do,” said Petron coach George Pascua.

Shopinas also has reason to be wary of unpredictable Foton.

“If we had a hard time against them in eliminations, for sure we’ll have a more difficult time in the semifinals,” said Shopinas coach Ramil de Jesus. Cedelf P. Tupas
